The Nature of the Great Spirit
The Great Spirit, ever eternal, loving, full of presence, is just awareness and its quality is that it radiates in all things. Love radiates and all things projecting from the Great Spirit are radiant, outgoing, expanding, and enlightening. The presence we call Great Spirit is already fully expanded and has nothing more or less to add or subtract but within, it is pregnant with a feeling and the feeling is to have something to be aware of. He is aware but there is nothing to be aware of, He is loving but has no object to love, just pure loving awareness. Awareness seeks something to be aware of. Love desires an object to love and so, from the fullness of potential, creation began.
Imagine a light shining with no object to fall upon. It is light, yet there is nothing to reveal. Imagine love overflowing, but with no one to embrace. This was the state of the Great Spirit—fullness, yet with no form to pour into.
From Potential to Expression
As above, so below; as it happens with the Great Spirit, so also it happens in the drama. In science, we speak of potential and kinetic energy. Originally the Great Spirit is full of potential energy but retains the ability to go into a kinetic state. If something has potential, that means it can also be kinetic (in motion). For example, when you see a matchbox or dry wood, that is fire in its potential state. In the past, scientists discovered the atom and were able to get the atom to release the potential power retained within it. So, it happened in the history of Hiroshima, an entire city was annihilated, just from the power of an atom. An atom when split reveals unimaginable power. In the same way, the Great Spirit, full of infinite potential, radiated outward into expression, into what we call the drama of existence. So, as Spirit radiates, it slows down into frequencies, higher and lower, finer and denser, until finally matter takes form and then this world, this body, this drama unfolds, and then awareness bears as witness.
The Dream of Spirit
But then all of this is like a dream. When you dream at night, you may find yourself in a city, speaking with people, walking on a road. You may travel far, face challenges, or rejoice in wonders. Yet when you awaken, you realize you never left your bed. It was all happening within you. So too, all that we see — the heavens, the earth, the struggles, the victories — is just the dream of the Great Spirit. All of it is within Him, not outside Him. Hence the whole drama becomes a dream of the great Spirit. And as every dream has a beginning and an end, so too this drama must one day fold back into the One who dreamed it.
The Breathing of God
Scripture says: “And God breathed into man the breath of life.”
Think of the breath. When you breathe out, there is outgoing air. When you breathe in, there is a return. Creation itself is the great out-breath of God—a radiating, a spreading, a blossoming of Spirit into form. And the return, the awakening, is the in-breath: all souls being drawn back and merging with the Great Spirit. Once we have returned to that state of oneness with the Spirit, there is unlimited peace, unlimited bliss, unlimited joy, and unlimited love.
Each person has gotten to a certain stage in the awakening or returning journey. There are those who have not yet ended their involvement in the dream and there are those who have ended it and are returning. So, breathing out brings the whole drama into existence and breathing in is the return to awakening. So we are on the breathing in return to the Great Spirit.
Our True Purpose
What then, is our purpose? Our purpose is to awaken. Our purpose is to return. Our purpose is to realize that this dream is not our ultimate reality. At our essence we are not the drama, not the roles, not even the struggles or the joys. At our essence we are pure awareness itself — the very spark of the Great Spirit. This is why the path of meditation is given. The limitation that comes with Concentration is that it attaches to objects — a candle flame, a word, an image. But meditation goes deeper. Meditation means getting into awareness without being aware of any object. Meditation is the return of kinetic energy back into pure potential, until we rest again in the Source. And in that merging, there is no lack, no imperfection, and no separation. Only eternal joy, eternal peace, eternal life.
Returning to Source
So, the dream unfolds. But the dream is not meaningless. It is through the dream that we awaken. It is through forgetfulness that we learn the sweetness of remembering. It is through separation that we rediscover the beauty of oneness.
Each person has gotten to a certain stage in the awakening or returning journey. There are those who have not yet ended their involvement in the dream and there are those who have ended it and are returning. Breathing out brings the whole drama into existence and breathing in is the return to awakening. So we are on the breathing in return to the Great Spirit.
So this is the purpose—the purpose of every soul's purpose is that we return to the Great Spirit, merge out and expand in Him fully. Anything less than that makes us feel imperfect. We feel shortcomings because we have been projected into this dream state and we are not able to express all the knowledge, power and radiance we have within us. And because we are not able to express peace in its perfection, we are looking for that perfection again, and it is that simple.
